Mental Health and Wellness Coach Training

We equip everyday Christians to support others facing life's challenges.

Many in our communities struggle alone

  • Unhealthy behaviors
  • High-conflict relationships
  • Stress, work, and life decisions
  • Drifting without purpose or direction in life

The reality: our systems of care have some gaps1

  • 1 in 4 adults with mental illness report an unmet need for treatment
  • Over 160 million Americans live in areas with mental health professional shortages 2
  • The U.S. is short tens of thousands of mental health professionals.3

Coach Training Scales to Meet the Need

Life coaching is uniquely positioned to address what traditional care cannot. It is:

  • Accessible - does not require diagnosis or insurance
  • Proactive - helps before crisis develops
  • Scalable - can be deployed through churches and communities
  • Relational - meets people where they actually live and struggle

Address Root Issues Early

Research shows coaching improves:

  • Behavior change and goal achievement (large effect sizes)
  • Self-awareness and decision-making
  • Relationships and communication
  • Resilience and emotional regulation

The Church is well positioned to meet this need

People naturally turn to trusted relationships first—not clinical systems.

  • ~25% of people with mental health challenges seek help from clergy or congregations 8
  • Churches have proximity, trust, and community

That's a good thing. It means that the church is not a secondary system of care after all - it is often the first line of care.

And it is an open door to engage people looking for answers and a better life.

But There Are A Few Obstacles

Many church staffs are already doing a lot to care for people, and may be stretched too thin to provide 1:1 care over a period of time. Additionally, lay leaders often feel a need for more training, which can often be expensive and difficult to coordinate.

Accessible Training and Scalable Care

Instead of relying on a limited number of professionals:

  • We train everyday Christians
  • To have intentional, guided conversations
  • That help others process, decide, and grow

This creates a distributed care system that can grow as you need it to - not dependent on a few experts, or even located in any one ministry, but activated across a community.

This approach allows people to begin meeting needs where the Lord has currently planted them:

  • Learn skills to better minister to common issues that may be popping up in your ministry or community, like mild to moderate depression or anxiety:
    • 7 million Christians in the U.S. experience major depression each year 5
    • Anxiety is the most common mental illness—and present among church attendees as well 6
  • Learn skills to help leaders:
    • 51% of Pastoral staff rate their emotional health as average or below.7
  • Learn skills to help people change unhelpful behavior patterns or relational issues

What Graduates are Saying...

"I'm often the one helping others. The training gave me a chance to talk to someone about my own life who wasn't there to judge me or fix me. It helped me grow, and made me want to help others grow as well."

Course Graduate

"Even in the first session, I started to learn how important it was to not try to fix people, to not try to give them the answers, but to bring them to the place where they can understand that there is an answer, and that nothing they've done is too much to separate them from God, or a healthy restorative life."

Course Graduate

"I have taken a lot of different trainings over the years at school and at work, and I got more out of this one than any other. Thank you for LifeCare!"
